How to make friends in highschool when you have social anxiety.

 High school is a time of life when you decide on a pursuit, meet new friends, enjoy life, and much more. Regardless this is not always the case for some individuals, especially for people with social anxiety. 'Social anxiety is a disorder, which makes it very difficult to interact with others, you feel stressed out in public.' It's very tiresome condition. Now the question arises, is it possible to make friends when you have social anxiety? No doubt, it is indeed difficult but not unthinkable. In this article, I will share some comprehensive tips, that will help you in making friends if you suffer from such a condition.







Following are some of the tips:

1)Sit in the Middle of class:
2)Try to smile and make eye contact:
3)Ask for help, and help others:
4)Challenge yourself daily:
5)Challenge your negative thoughts:
6)Try to take part in chatter when someone talks about your favorite topic:
7)Don't be hard on yourself:


1) Sit in the middle of class :

Most of the time people with social anxiety sit at the front or last to avoid contact with people. Because of that, they don't interact with other students that much. The result is that they don't have any companions at all. So the first tip is to always sit in the middle of the classroom, so you would have more chances to talk to other students. When I started to sit in the middle, I started to have more chances to talk to others. 


2)Try to smile and make eye contact:


Now you have decided to win against your social anxiety, and make friends. The first step is to act approachable. Always keep a smile on your face. Even if you can't find yourself talking to others, you should try to smile at least. Making eye contact is also a good step. Try to make eye contact with your class-fellows, and your teachers. This is a good step in making you feel more confident in public.


               


3)Ask for help, and help others:

Our minds formulate negative thoughts, such as no one wants to help us, or that we should not ask for help. But actually, it is not true. Many people like to help others. It's a very good way to start a dialogue, you can ask for a sharpener, pencil, etc. A conversation will start automatically. Also if someone asks for help, reply to them in a good manner.


4)Challenge yourself daily:

Challenge yourself daily, that you have to do better than yesterday. Always keep on challenging your mind, for example, today I will spend my lunch break with everyone, or today I will give a presentation in my class, etc. This will make you feel challenged, and you will try to conquer your anxieties.


5)Challenge your negative thoughts:

Now, this is very important, your anxieties will always try to make you feel insecure. They will make you feel like you should not talk to anybody, that no one's interested in being your friend, that you are making people bored, etc. Make sure to know that our minds are not telling realities, we have to be very careful. Never trust such meddlesome thoughts.

            



6) Try to take part in chatters when someone talks about your favorite topic:

Talking about something that you like is very easy compared to other things. You can easily make friends when you have mutual interests. So try to take part in conversations that you have an interest in. It can be of anything, for example, talking about your favorite books, or talking about your favorite shows. 


          

7)Don't be hard on yourself:

Having a conversation with social anxiety is a big thing, let alone trying to make friends. So try hard, but don't blame yourself if something does not go according to your deduction. Give yourself some time don't be hard on yourself.


Conclusion: You can make lifetime friends even with social anxiety. So try hard and don't feel overthrown. You are strong for trying.
